Mach V at the 1997 Sunrayce sets a program record finish with 4th place!

Using the shell molds as a base model formerly Cal State L.A.'s Solar Eagle II, Mach V had Texas A&M’s strongest finish in program history. Additionally Texas A&M Solar Motorsports, Keeping very close distance by the conclusion of Sunrayce 3rd was less than 15 minutes ahead of us. 5th was almost two hours behind us, showing the competitive excellence of the team!

With single-piece aluminum disc wheels along with a state-of-the-art electric motor gave the Mach V the most efficient propulsion possible. The electrical system was awarded the Most Innovative Electrical System by the Department of Energy.

1997 Sunrayce Qualifier

Sunrayce 1997 followed a familiar route from Indianapolis, Indiana to a finish line in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Texas A&M Solar Car Racing Team finished 4th, with an average speed of 41.70 miles in 29:47:21.
